Just before I became a performance artist, I read a book about Malcolm McLaren and how he had managed the Sex Pistols. I was impressed by his publicity techniques which seemed particularly well suited to promoting performance art. Therefore, in an attempt to learn more, I enrolled in an evening course in public relations.
Thanks to that course, I learned how to write an attention-grabbing press release as well as how to handle a public relations crisis that involved the police. It also gave me a better understanding of how groups like Greenpeace publicized their ideas.
